Dr. Michelle Look, local medical consultant and staff physician for the US Olympic Training center, will be the team physician for the US Paralympic team in Beijing this summer. The Paralympic Games are elite sports competition for athletes with physical and visual disabilities.  Held in the same year, the same city and same venues as the Olympic Games, the Paralympic Games are the second largest sporting event in the world.  The term "Paralympic" means "parallel to the Olympics." Since its formation in 2001, U.S. Paralympics has been inspiring Americans to achieve their dreams.  Through education, sports programs and partnerships with community organizations, medical facilities and government agencies, U.S. Paralympics is making a difference in the lives of thousands of physically disabled people every day. 

More than 200 U.S. athletes will compete in 18 sports during the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing, China, September 6-17, 2008.Dr. Look will be the team physician for US Paralympic Cycling team in Beijing and the US Paralympic Equestrian team in Hong Kong.

The Paralympic games for Track cycling competition will be held September 7-10 and road cycling competition will be held September 12-14.  Track cycling will take place at the Laoshan Velodrome and road cycling events will traverse Ming Tombs Reservoir Road.

Equestrian competition will be held September 7-12 at the Olympic Equestrian Venue in Hong Kong.  Equestrian is one of two Paralympic events (Sailing - Qingdao) not being held in Beijing.

Dr. Look will be one of the 8 doctors and 12 athletic trainers which form the US Paralympic Medical team. She was selected from hundreds of doctors to represent the US. The process of being selected for these games started 6 years ago. Dr. Look has worked at many international and national Olympic events and games to lead to this selection. She was the physician for the Summer World Games in Thailand in 2007.
